Not For the Faint at Heart

Soooo... Sean recently had re constructive foot surgery. This was all not a really huge deal when I thought it all out in my mind; Sean will take a few weeks to get better and he will be back on his snowboard ready to hit Mt Hood BUT this is not the case. I could have never imagined the change this would bring.

Poor little active Sean had to have his foot elevated above his heart for 7 days, can't put any weight on it for 6 weeks and can't walk without crutches for 3.5 months! He will be back to normal in about 6 months.

As far as I understand, they cut the tendon in his leg, stretched the tendons in his foot connecting to four of his toes, rotated and cut the heel bone in half, cut a pie shaped wedge out of it and drilled two huge screws in it to keep it together. They Fused a joint that connects to the big toe (put 4 screws in that one) and this was all done in about four hours and nine incisions!

The doctor and his resident have been absolutely wonderful. They have been so great about answering questions and did a great job on his foot.

And after all this I have to say that I have enjoyed this time I have had to help Sean through this. It seems that the times that are the most difficult bring us the closest. I am truly grateful for Sean. He is my "knight in shining armor" even if the shining armor happens to be a massive boot on his left foot.

(Side note) We couldn't do this without Sean's family helping us every day!

So what did he do to his foot to need this surgery? It doesn't look too bad. I'm sure it hurts though!

Wow, poor guy! I had foot surgery a few years ago because I stepped on glass. I thought that was bad, but this is much worse! I am so sorry for him, and for you, not fun. At least his foot will be better, isn't it amazing what they can do nowadays?

did they let him keep the piece of bone they cut out?

OUCH!! That is going to be one awesome scar! I hope that when people ask Sean or You about it, that you guys totally exaggerate about it and make the story good!
Give Sean our best!

Wowee, those pictures are awesome! And the picture of Kayla makes me so sad because she looks old! You can see her neck is all long and ladylike and her chin is thinning out and becoming more like a two year old chin. Ahhhhh where has the time gone? I love her and want to kiss her to death.
