.... often times a day out on the town with a two year old guarantees you at LEAST 3 melt downs. This is what I expected this morning when I woke up at seven AM to take my Saturday morning hike with my awesome friend Samantha. As we hiked and chatted about various things, I couldn't keep from thinking of the day ahead of me. This is how I planned and prepared in my mind:
10:00 AM: Leave for the University of Utah game, Kayla in the car.
10:05 AM: I realize I forgot something really important and we have to turn around.
10:20 AM: Finally on the road.
10:30 AM: Kayla starts to scream and squiggle because she does not want to be in her car seat: I do everything I can before I realize there is nothing I can do.
10:45 AM: Find a place to park that is a two hour walk to the stadium, meanwhile Kayla is having a meltdown because she is sick of being in her seat.
11:00 AM: Start the hike from the car to the game.
11:08 AM: Kayla starts to hit me in the head because she wants to get out of the backpack, I try and think of a reasonable way to discipline her while continuing to walk at a quick pace, only takes 15 seconds to realize I will have to address it later.
11:50 AM: Finally get to the stadium and have to open the diaper bag for someone to look through while Kayla continues to pull on my earrings and yank at my pony tail.
12:10 PM: Start the long hike up the stadium bleachers and finally get to our seats.
12:20 PM: I smell Kayla poop. No further explanation needed.
1:10 PM: Finally get back to my seat and realize it is almost half time and I missed the first 3 touchdowns.
1:10 PM - 3:00 PM: Hope and pray that Kayla won't throw the object at the person in front of her for the eighth time, try and entertain her while all she wants to do is run, and I miss the entire game.
4:00 PM: Arrive at Olive Garden for Sean's cousin's birthday dinner with a non-napped, grumpy Kayla.
4:05 PM: Kayla starts to throw her color crayons at the server while taking the order.
4:15 PM: Drinks come, are spilled within 30 seconds. Kayla climbs our of her chair.
4:20 PM: Food comes, I wrestle Kayla and end up taking her outside to chase her around while she runs.
5:30 PM: I face the fact that I will have to eat when I get home because the food is cold and Kayla has had it and needs to sleep.
8:00 PM: Finally get home and put Kayla right to bed.
As I am thinking of this day that was about to take place, I was not exactly looking forward to this game like I do the other U of U games that we get a baby sitter for!
I was pleasently surprised with how the day REALLY played out!
HERE IS THE REAL STORY:
11:00 AM: leave for the game (Kayla is perfect in the car, talking up a storm)
12:00 AM: at the gate (Kayla having not put up a fuss at all about being in the child carrier, in fact seemed to like it)
12:10 PM to 3:00 PM: Kayla happily cheers with the rest of the crowd, no need for any diaper change, she falls asleep in my arms (unheard of) and sleeps for about 20 minutes, never acting up once!
4:00 PM: Arrive at Olive Garden and are seated quickly. Kayla eats salad, a little bread and all of her macaroni and cheese. She shows no sign of acting up, sitting nicely in her chair, no whining, no throwing, no loud outbursts, PERFECTION!
5:00 PM: Eats a little piece of birthday cake, sitting in her chair.
6:00 PM: Quick trip to Milo Sport, Kayla talking and laughing in the car the whole time.
8:00 PM: Finally arrive home. I get Kayla ready for bed, she says prayers, gives kisses, and reaches her arms up for her crib.
I seriously experienced having a perfect child for the whole day. I was totally blown away but LOVED it! I told Kayla over and over how happy I was that she was so good. Sean and I talked about how good she was in the car so she could hear it. My previously apprehended stressful day turned out to be rather blissful!
I am baffled (but happy!)
