Family Home Evening: An evening my church suggests we set aside to spend as a family. My mom was always very organized when it came to FHE. We would have a lesson, song, game and a treat. I will admit it, we struggle to even reserve an evening for it. But THIS evening we did it. We took the kids out to eat (which starts well but ends very loud with a lot of people looking at us). After we managed to escape the restaurant without anyone getting hurt, we headed up to a canyon near the city for a sunset walk. It was beautiful. I imagined we could stop at a picnic table and have some family talking time. But alas, Kayla ended up having to use nature's bathroom, the babies chewed on sticks and ingested half of the stick a long with dirt and when that was done they started screaming. I rode double on the scooter with Kayla down the canyon and ended it with having to tell Kayla no about something. She became completely offended and had one of those melt downs that I used to tell myself MY children would NEVER have when they are five years old. Ppfff..whatever. Word to the wise: if you ever find yourself saying "my kids are not going to..." you should stop, because that thought is an automatic jinx.
I would say the evening was 90% successful. It has become increasingly more difficult to get out together as a family because the boys call the shots. They are so good natured but when they get tired, they cry. And cry. Inconsolable. Therefore, we shoot for places that have easy escape routes or the vast outdoors where it won't bother anyone. I figure as long as we are making memories...we are doing okay.

Perfect Hannah!! You keep working the program. Elder Nelson at one of our stake conferences said, "I won't tell you that our family scripture study (insert family home evening or other supposed to be spiritual event) was a howling success....sometimes it was more howling than successful." I keep that with me and on the hard days, I remind myself that even the G.A.'s have hard times. But he said, "our children are doing better than we did." And so we go on. As everyone grows and you keep trying it will get better...and maybe even rival the FHE you grew up with :-)
I love all your latest posts. I just got caught up. Your family is darling and I think my boys have done everything on my list of things my kids would never do and a few more that I couldn't even imagine up. I like to think of my family in public and free entertainment for everyone else in public that day.
Oh Hannah you are an amazing Mama! I love reading your blog because it just brightens my day every time. Keep up the good work, your kids are going to turn out wonderfully:)
